Inglewood, Calgary, August 14, 2009 : Quick dip into the inner-city neighborhood of Inglewood at dusk. Conditions could have been better, but fun none the less. Chilly evening for August.

Ramsay, Calgary, May 29, 2009 : Random photog from a mid-day wander through the Calgary neighborhood of Ramsay. This is the neighborhood that my office is in. Ramsay is a rich palette of funky, dirty, industrial, residential and inner-city. Property values are relatively low compared to communities similarly close to downtown, but appropriately so, considering the pervasive crime and nearby light industry. This community is trying to appeal, although it would be tough to say they are succeeding.

George Bush Protest, March 17, 2009 - Calgary : George W. Bush made his first public visit since leaving office of the President of the United States. He came to Calgary, Alberta, Canada on March 17, 2009 to speak at an invite-only $400 per person luncheon. Most, if not all of the attendees were people from the oil and finance businesses in town and every one of them was a right-wing conservative. I visited the door to the convention centre where I knew there would be a protest in order to be counted - counted to show that not everyone in Calgary was enthusiastic to have him visit. While the placid army of suit-clothed attendees stood in freezing temperatures while waiting to be let in, about 200 protesters waved flags and caused disruption under the watchful eye of roughly 70 police officers. Rather than blow whistles and shout profanities, I took pictures. These are some shots of the protest.

Downtown Calgary, January 28, 2009 : Had an hour to burn between leaving work and picking up my wife, so I strolled up 9th Ave. and eventually into a cool if not spooky alley. Yet more challenging late afternoon lighting conditions. And beige - oh so beige... Calgary is a dirty city in winter.

Downtown Calgary, January 11, 2009 : Randomly wandering about downtown Calgary. This time of year, Calgary's central square, Olympic Plaza (where the medals were awarded in 1988) is flooded and made into a public skating rink. Even has its own zamboni. Lighting conditions this day were not optimal - overcast and very little definition, not to mention a number of shots involving snow and ice. If nothing else a good learning experience.
